Why am I doing this?

What the heck is an Aspie?  Do I need to explain what a cougar is?  So what makes me an Aspie Cougar you might ask.  Well, an Aspie is someone with Asperger’s Syndrome.  It’s a mild form of autism.  It simply means that I believe myself to be on the autism spectrum.  I have never been medically diagnosed but my son received a diagnosis 2 years ago.  The fact that it took me until he was 9 years old to get him tested is a little disappointing but we won’t dwell on the past.  In the process of getting a correct and formal diagnosis for him, I firmly believe that I have the condition also.  Why would I want to add the label of “un-diagnosed aspie” to my already complicated life?  The short answer is that I am almost 50 years old and have struggled my entire life to figure out why I was different and so when I discovered this information about myself I was beyond thrilled.  It helped to explain a lot and made me feel so much better.

Now the “cougar thing…”  A cougar is a lady that chooses to date men that are significantly younger than herself.  I make no apologies for aging well.  I am often approached by younger men.  I’m totally fine with it.  But a caveat, in the traditional definition of a cougar, there is the idea that the woman, who is usually financially secure, supports her younger beau in exchange for “favors.”  Well I’m just going to put it out there because I tend to be quite direct like that – I am a single parent with responsibilities so if you’re looking for a “come up” miss me with that.  Like how I went a little ‘hood on ya there?

So there you have it.  I am many things but I am most definitely an Aspie Cougar who is e fabulous at 50 something.
